The second Monday in October has been designated as a national public holiday in Canada since 1957. It provides an opportunity for people to give thanks not only for a good harvest but for all the blessings of the past year.

Established in 1992 by the World Federationof Mental Health, World Mental Health Day is celebrated annually on October 10. This year’s theme “It is Time to Prioritize Mental Health inthe Workplace” highlights the vital connection between mental health and work.
On this feast of St. Francis of Assisi, let us pray his prayer of peace for all affected by the violence, displacement and death of people and destruction of land and property as a result of the wars throughout the region.
This year’s theme is Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban future. Recognizing that our world is becoming increasingly urbanized as young people flock to cities, this theme is a call to action to the next generation to rise to the challenge of addressing some of the serious problems facing today’s society.
The day also aims to mobilize the wider community to address difficulties faced by older people in today’s world.
Prayers for the Sick, Resources from the Wisdom Circles, Items of Interest, Important Dates, Women in Canadian History and a delicious Creamy Mushroom Stroganoff recipe are among the many topics covered in our latest issue.
The day also honors the dignity, resilience and strength of survivors and intergenerational survivors, acknowledging the pain and suffering endured over the years.
