International Day of older People – October 1

In 1990 the UN designated October 1 as the International Day of Older People to honor the role of older persons in society, to recognize their many contributions and to raise awareness about the opportunities and challenges of aging populations.

The day also aims to mobilize the wider community to address difficulties faced by older people in today’s world.

The theme for 2024 is: “Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide“.

Let us celebrate the gift older persons are to our society with their wisdom, experience and knowledge.
